Santorini: La Maison Restaurant, Imerovigli
Have you ever had a dinner so wonderful you almost welled up?
I happened to be their very first booking of the season. They opened the restaurant just for our arrival, for one night, before they closed again for Greek Easter. Nikolas, the manager, welcomed us as we arrived at 7pm and I could see the staff in the back doing last minute checks. The young waiter, a little flushed, ushered us to the best table and gave us the menu shyly telling us that they had just printed it out 15 minutes ago. It was opening night after all and everyone was excited.
The setting is one that cannot be beaten. It is simply too gorgeous to be able to put into words, so I will let the photos to do the talking. The restaurant is out in the open, on top of a hill, with uninterrupted 180 degree views out on to the sea and the Caldera. You can see the sun starting to wave goodnight for another day, as we sat down totally unaware of the quality of the meal that lay ahead…
Whilst we were marvelling at the view, the food started to arrive with an amuse-bouche from the chef landing at our table. From the moment that this little message-in-a-bottle type dish was presented to us, we knew that this was not any local tavern-type restaurant. This was fine dining, and we were in for a real treat.
As the sun set behind me, the birthday celebrations continued and the restaurant had remembered! They surprised me with a beautiful dessert with a single candle that flickered in the gentle breeze. I got so overwhelmed at this point, everything was so perfect!
Outfit details: Got my little black dress [here] – scuba strapless asymmetric dress, an absolute bargain in the sale. Great shape, doesn’t cling (so you can eat!) and totally sexy for a dinner date. The jacket I have on I don’t have the link to, but a cape blazer like [this one], I am totally digging this season. Check out those links!
I cannot think of a better dinner date to round off a marvellous trip. I cannot praise Le Maison enough – perfect setting, relaxed and cozy ambience, super friendly and professional staff, unbelievably tasty food beautifully presented… and the most gorgeous sunset to match. Regarding pricing, I was amazed at how completely reasonable it was – totally in line with all the other restaurants on the Island (approx. €10+ for starters and €20+ for mains) and the quality and presentation of the food at La Maison was 10x better than where you would get elsewhere. There isn’t much to see in Imerovigli, but make La Maison a reason to come as a dinner destination, and you can always stroll to Fira afterwards for late-night shopping and drinks! I wish them all the best for an excellent season this year. From what I had experienced, I have no doubt that this will be an extremely popular dinner destination on the Island… so get your reservations in early!
As Arnie said, “I will be back.”
For Reservations – email Nikolas at email@example.com and mention that I referred him to you. He is the best, and would be thrilled to have you pop by to say hello. Promise to order that beef dish with truffle for me, ok? I am still dreaming about that dish.
