Eze, France: This could be the most romantic place in the world
Do you scroll through your Instagram feed and heart all those gorgeous photos of all these people going to amazing places and wish you too could go there one day?
Well, I managed to do just that, in what I think has got to be one of the most romantic places in the entire world.
From the centre of Nice, it takes around half and hour and €32 in an Uber to get to Eze, through winding roads up into the hills, with jaw-gapingly stunning views of the coastline along the entire way there. I don’t know if I was just very lucky, but all the Uber rides I took in Nice were with a Mercedes C-Class and men dressed in a sharp suit and shades. I cannot complain for sure, but I have always had this dream of going to Eze in an old vintage convertible car, my hair wrapped in a Hermés scarf, donning big Chanel sunglasses, a gorgeous man driving the car, cruising the French Riviera coastline with his hand rested on my thigh. Just like how you would imagine it in the movies. Maybe next time. Maybe it shall only remain in my dreams.
My parents had reminded me that I had been to Eze before. But I don’t remember it being ‘this’ beautiful. I don’t know if it’s the life experiences that I have accumulated over the years or too many Hollywood romantic comedies I have watched, that has made me finally appreciate the sheer beauty of this place. I really really wish I could tell you just how this place makes me feel. How much my mind explodes with so much gorgeousness tickling my senses. How much my heart burst with pure happiness that makes me feel like I could shower the whole world with sparkly heart confetti. How much I wish you were there to experience it all with me.
Suffice to say, I am left speechless… so let me get my photos to do the talking now and you tell me how much you like them.
Chateau Eza is on another level of beaut.
It is an old castle turned hotel, perched on the cliff side with a restaurant that is well worth a visit.
We were led though the bar and into a private balcony. [Check out the video clip on my Instagram!]
Oh my goodness, I nearly died and literally were up in the clouds I tell you.
Our own private dining, al fresco, right on the side of the cliff overlooking Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Nice and the Mediterranean Sea beyond. I literally shrieked with excitement and could not keep my jaw from dropping to the floor. It is right up there with one of the most beautiful views I have ever been fortunate to have witnessed.
I would highly suggest going for the set menus (Lunch menu €52 for three courses plus an amuse bouche) – very clean, French affair. Imaginative menu to delight, plate selection and presentation to impress the artists in us all, and taste to mouth-water and wow even the most acquired taste buds.
Weekend lunch lasting four hours sound civilised, don’t you think?
We felt like we had the whole place to ourselves and it felt like if we had wanted to, we could have stayed on to enjoy the view well into sunset.
The whole place is peaceful and elegant. Not a seagull in sight that you may have to bat away nor young kids that you’d want to duck tape their mouths shut. You can’t help but to stare out onto the vast shimmering ocean ahead, spotless blue sky above, terracotta roofs dotted in the hills, and with all this right in front of you, you do not know how life could be any more beautiful. If this was a Hollywood movie, it would be the perfect setting for a proposal. My mind keeps wandering to all the heart-meltingly warm gooey over-indulgent screen script that would be said amongst the lead actors in this most romantic scene. Ahhh, I should change my career to a romcom screen writer!
I have been to some gorgeous places around the world and have seen some incredible views. Sunset in Santorini, bluest of skies of Hawaii, clear waters of the Grenadines, cherry blossoms in Japan, bright lights of Manhattan… and the late afternoon hum of the French Riviera from the hilltops of Eze is one that I shall remember forever deep in my heart.
