Beating the January blues taking in the crisp air of Zurich
Finding a way to beat the January blues is a tough one.
Removing yourself from the everyday slog of work – gym – brunch blowouts – repeat, is something you know you need to do, but you find that you just can’t peel yourself away from the sofa, which now has an indent in the same spot you had occupied for the last 30 days of January, and starring at the negative debit in your bank balances makes you reach for the bottle. Again.
Time to get up and switch it up.
Zurich is somewhere I had been going to for years for work reasons, but aside from navigating the inside of the airport, whizzing across the streets to and from private banks, it had occurred to me that I had never explored the city.
One of my best friends recently moved out to Zurich, and we had both wanted to be tourists for the day! Waking up early on Saturday, with an eery mist covering the lake, we took to the cobbled streets to explore the Old Town and see this Swiss beauty in all its glory!
I could not leave without having a proper Swiss cheese fondue!
A portion for two was a little larger than I had anticipated… but with chopped mushrooms, garlic and a VERY strong hit of sherry, it went down very well!
Zurich is a small town that you could happily just browse, sit on the street-side cafes to people watch in the sunshine, drink wine, and chillax. You feel safe here, everything so orderly and civilised, it is a breath of fresh air that is worthwhile taking the 1.5hr flight from London for that getaway from the London smog.
