ANGLONIP to me combines the very best of everything that is English, with Nippon which is what us Japanese call our country. Being born in Japan and having been brought up in England from an early age, I have had the fortune of having enriched myself with the Western culture whilst maintaining my original Oriental roots. By sharing with you my love of food and all things wonderful found in my two home cities – London and Tokyo, along with all the little discoveries I encounter on my travels, come along with me on my journey and hope you will love it too.
Why have you started this blog?
Everywhere you look is a vision, a moment to capture, an opportunity to seize. Everyone is unique, carrying a different story, with our own strengths and weaknesses, successes and downfalls shaping our character and path. I may not be a Michelin-starred chef nor a trained journalist, but what I cook and what I come across is my own. I love what I do and I have taken so many photos over the years and so many memories created. Now, I will get a chance to share them with you, which I couldn’t be happier about… hope you will be ready for an adventure!
Fresh tagliatelle with my homemade green pesto. Or maybe with truffle butter. I have never been one of those girls who resisted carbs or butter. The more the tastier.
Delectable cupcakes with the most pretty-looking frosting. It’s all about eating with the eyes first…
Fresh pink grapefruit juice split with slim tonic water, with a sprig of mint. Two slim straws.
Peonies. All the time. Every day is an occasion.
Favourite London discovery?
Little Venice. A stroll by the canal on a warm summer evening, stopping by The Summerhouse for a chilled-out seafood supper in the open air makes you fall in love with life all over again.
Favourite Tokyo discovery?
The little side streets behind Omotesando houses little cafes and boutiques, and modern residential apartments I dream of living in one day.
Best city you have been on vacation?
Honolulu, Hawaii. An exotic home away from home for me, somewhere I had been going since I was little. The Waikiki strip has the golden sandy beach with sparkling waters that you can often find yourself swimming alongside turtles; the people are inspirationally happy and easy-going; Kalakaua Avenue has all the stores any well-groomed girl would ever want with a Victoria Secret store and The Cheesecake Factory on opposite sides of the street. #Win.
Dream holiday destination?
I have never been lucky enough to be whisked off to the Maldives. Waking up in a water villa, swimming in crystal clear waters, private dining on the beach, feasting on fresh exotic fruit and seafood… that would be nice.
What camera are you using?
I used to rely on my point and shoot Sony Cybershot. But I have invested in a Sony A7 full frame camera in April 2016 that I am experimenting with at the moment with a Zeiss lens. It takes wonderful buttery bokeh effects, which was what I wanted and totally elevates the quality of photographs. It has an embedded wifi – this is key.
Who takes your photos?
I take most of the photos, unless I am in them! My wonderful friends drops in to act as impromptu photographer once in a while!
Who designed your website?
My friend, Thijs, worked with me to get this website looking exactly how I had envisaged. He is a true professional, business-savvy, and more importantly, one of the best person I am fortunate enough to know. His contacts are: firstname.lastname@example.org
